Brewer Youth Hockey Travel Team Tryouts Announced
Brewer Youth Hockey will be hosting Travel Team tryouts for the upcoming 2017-18 season. These try-outs will be inclusive of all age levels 10U-16U. This is not a guarantee that we will field a Travel Team at any or all age groups. If after each try-out it is clear that we can field a developmentally appropriate team, we will extend offers to those players selected within 24 hours. The players chosen will then have 24 hours from that point to accept the spot by submitting a signed letter of intent and a $150 non-refundable deposit. This can be done in person or online at brewerhockey.org.
If at any age level, it becomes apparent that fielding a travel team will be detrimental to our overarching goal of player development, and growing the game, we will not field that team. All players who tried out will be notified of this as soon as a decision is reached, so they can pursue opportunities with other organizations if desired. In order to facilitate this, Brewer Youth Hockey Travel tryouts have been scheduled to not conflict with the tryout dates being offered by other organizations in the area.
Brewer Youth Hockey Travel Tryout dates will be as follows:
10U - Tuesday March 7th, 5:30-7:00pm @PIA
12U - Tuesday March 7th, 7:10-8:40pm @PIA
14U -Tuesday March 14th, 5:30-7:00pm @PIA MOVED TO MARCH 22 at 5:20 DUE TO THE STORM
16U –Tuesday March 15th, 5:40-7:10pm @PIA
Registration and Payment
Although you may register at any time prior to the try-out, we ask that you please register online at brewerhockey.org by March 5th so we have an idea of how many players we will be evaluating. The tryout fee will $35. As always, a USA Hockey number for the 2016-17 season will be required upon registration
All try-outs will be open to the public, please feel free to attend.
Season Registration Fees are estimated to be $875 for 10U,12U, and 14U. Registration fee for the U16 team will be $650. We expect to play an approximately 30+ game season against other Travel teams in Northern New England and Canada at the 10U, 12U, and 14U levels. The 16U team is scheduled to play the full regular season MEAHA schedule, approximately 16 games. 16U season begins in August and ends prior to High School tryouts. Games are typically played on Sundays. Practice will be full ice for 16U. Final budgets will be determined by the number of teams in the MEAHA league as well as the number of players on each team. An initial deposit of $150 will be required upon acceptance of a roster spot. The remaining balance will be collected in four monthly payments. These payments will be automatically collected from the account you used to make your deposit. These will be collected on June 1st, July 1st, August 1st, and September 1st.
Brewer Youth Hockey has been committed to growing the great game of hockey in Eastern Maine for over 40 years. For many years, the organization decided to not field travel teams because we wanted to focus all of our attention to our House hockey programs
We feel that in order to support travel hockey, and do it right, we must first build a strong foundation in House Hockey. Over the past five years our organization has tripled in size and shows no signs of slowing down. Through our commitment to growing the game, we have developed an instructional program that is introducing over one-hundred local kids every year to the greatest game ever played. Through our devotion to developing those players, we have built strong Tier IV programs at every age level, and have multiple teams in contention for State Championships.
It has always been our mission to help all of our players develop towards their potential. We have reached a point where we have many players that would clearly benefit from a more challenging level of play. With that in mind we are offering these try-outs, and will be fielding Travel teams based on the results. Brewer Youth Hockey will only field a travel team at a given age level if that team is developmentally appropriate, has the ability to be competitive, and does not decimate our ability to be competitive at the Tier IV level.
