Brewer Youth Hockey's 12U Travel team headed down I-95 this weekend to participate in the Western Mass Spring Meltdown 2024 hosted in Springfield , MA.
Brewer started off the tournament on Friday with a contest against the Vermont Black Bears, with the Witches gaining the advantage in the second half of the game to capture a 5-0 victory.
Early Saturday morning the Vermont Wildcats skated to a 3-3 tie with BYH, in a back and forth affair. Later that afternoon Brewer defeated the Connecticut Game Change 6-0, securing the first place seed for the championship.
A rematch with the physical Vermont Wildcats saw Brewer fall behind early 2-0, but the Witches were able to tie the game up with 2 minutes to go in the game.
The tourney went to a shootout instantly after regulation time. Goals by Kayden Freese and Matthew Tuck and stellar goaltending by Natalie Surran saw Brewer prevail in the shootout after 4 rounds.
On the season the 12U team was 3-0 in shootout contests!
